The heart of the beast is a V-8 that’s closely related to the Chevy Corvette’s LT1 engine. The Denali's inconveniently high load floor is a consequence of its rudimentary rear suspension. The $16,780 ($16,8) upgrade from a base Yukon SLE 4x4 adds a 6.2-liter V-8, heated and cooled perforated-leather front seats, a heated second-row bench, a power-folding third row, magnetic-ride-control dampers, HID headlamps, active noise cancellation, a larger alternator, heated mirrors, a customizable driver’s display, and, last but not least, sparkling exterior body-side moldings. Most Yukons are sold with Denali trim for good reason: There’s substance behind the geographically disorienting badge. Starting with the longer 130-inch wheelbase (versus the regular Yukon’s 116), four-wheel drive, and sumptuous Denali trim, our order monger exercised restraint by adding but two options to the $69,375 base price: a $4160 Touring package (entertainment system with second- and third-row DVD screens, sunroof, theft-deterrent system with self-powered horn, and head-up display) and $495 22-inch wheels. Full disclosure: When this 40,000-mile gantlet was complete, we negotiated an extra 8000 miles to accommodate pressing vacation and racing needs. Mashing the scales at just over 6000 pounds, this Lone Star limo hauls eight, tows 7900 pounds, and comfortably sleeps a parent and two adventurous kids. Meet Big Den, a 2015 GMC Yukon XL Denali 4WD that casts a shadow twice as large as a Fiat 500’s. My double Bob jogging stroller won’t fit without folding down one of the seats… consider an XL if this is important to you.It has plenty of gadgets, but the Denali's interior feels more like a tarted-up mid-priced truck than a $74K luxury vehicle. Entertainment Package – No HDMI only composite connections so you can’t watch videos from newer iphones that have lightning connector.Seats fold up and down with the touch of a button.The car offers ample storage in front cabin for purse and misc items.Another great feature is the crash immanent warning where a red light flashes on the front window and the seat vibrates if something happens in front of the truck and brakes haven’t been applied. There is also a feature that makes the seat vibrate when the car moves out of it’s lane lines. In the mirror a little car icon lights up anytime someone is approaching or is in your blind spot. One of my favorite safety features are the side mirrors. There is a work around and you can read more about that here. This means movies on newer iPads or iPhones with lightning connections can not be played on the Yukon television using the composite/USB connectors. The 2015 Yukon has outdated composite connections and doesn’t have an HDMI connection. Yet, GMC doesn’t have the technology to make it easy or enjoyable to use. It’s a family vehicle and the TV is a wonderful feature for long trips. The entertainment system is one of the biggest weaknesses of the 2015 Yukon in my book. It’s my perspective I guess? I don’t sit back there and expect it to be as roomy as the front seat but I can certainly ride back there and not get out limping. Many people disagree but I myself have sat back in the third row and feel it has a good amount of space. My kids can easily get in and out of the third row. There are a lot of extra family friendly perks that come with a mini van that don’t come with the Yukon though, so it’s a trade off. The bucket seats give the convenience of a mini van interior without having to drive a mini van. I must admit one of the biggest reasons I was drawn to the Yukon were the second row bucket seats. I also like that the car sits high enough off the ground that I don’t grind into curbs or pavement when I go up over a curb (happens more often than I like to admit) or there is a steep hill. This combined with the seats adjusting up, down, forward and backward allows me to position myself where I can see well in all directions. The Yukon has adjustable brake and gas peddles that move forward and backward with a touch of a button. I am only 5’3 so I was worried I wouldn’t feel comfortable driving such a big vehicle. I have the Entertainment, Sun and Destinations package, 2nd Row Bucket Seats and towing package. My Yukon SLT is a 4-wheel drive, Iridium Metallic with a Coco Dune Interior.
